Star Base Command Menu

The Star Base Command Menu is where you can order construction of new ships.  You can also upgrade your Star Base from this menu as well.  The menu consists of three information panels:  the Star Base information panel, the resource status panel, and the dry docks status panel.

Star Base Image

In the top left corner is an image of a Star Base.  It is mainly for decoration.  Above the image is the name of the Star Base.  There is also a previous and next button to the left and right of the base name.  These buttons will take you to the next and previous Star base.

By default the star base name is randomized, but you can rename the base.  To rename a base, you must left click on the base name.  This will activate the edit box.  Simply enter in the new base name.  There is not an undo feature for name changes.  Once you have started changing a name, it is permanent.

Star Base Information Panel

Below the image of the Star Base you will see an information panel.  The information panel tells you the Star Base technology level.  As you upgrade the Star Base, the information displayed here will change to reflect the new technology level of the base.

Resource Information Panel

This panel is location next to the Main Command Panel.  The panel displays important information about your resource availability.  In the building process, planets have a higher priority than a Star Base.  This means that a planet allocated to build many new buildings will have first right to the available resources at hand, and the star base may not get any resources to build ships or upgrade its components.

The panel shows you the amount of alloys and energy crystals on the planet, the amount of alloys and crystals the planet has allocated for its own building needs, and the amount the Star Base has allocated for itself.  New construction always takes place at the beginning of the turn, so it is important to remember that if the total resources allocated to new construction is higher than the amount the planet has, then the Star Base will not be able to begin all the construction and upgrades that are scheduled for the next turn.

Dry Docks Panel

The dry docks panel shows the design name and estimated completion time of the ships that are currently under construction, and the ships that will start construction as soon as the required resources are present.  If a ship is under construction, the estimate will have an asterisk (*) next to it.  Each Star Base has ten dry docks and each dry dock can support a certain amount of workers.  At the bottom of the list, you will see the number of workers scheduled followed by / and then the total number of workers this star base can support.  When you upgrade the dry docks, each dry dock will be able to support more workers, and so you will be able to build ships faster.

If you build only one ship, the Star Base can still only allocate the maximum workers for that one dry dock.  So whether you build ten ships or one does not affect how fast ships are built.  The real factor lies in how many workers one dry dock can support.  In order to build ships faster, you must upgrade your dry docks.

Secondary Command Panel

The secondary command panel allows you to upgrade the star base, cancel or pause ship construction, scrap ships in orbit, build ships, and design and build custom ships.

Upgrade Star Base

This command is where you can choose to upgrade the dry docks and the power generators.

Upgrade Defense System

This command is where you can upgrade the shields, hangars, and armor.

Upgrade Weapons System

This command allows you to upgrade the primary, secondary, and tertiary weapons systems as well as the torpedo launchers.

Cancel Construction

This will remove the selected ship from the dry docks.  If the ship was partially constructed, you will lose a portion of the percentage of the resources that were used to build the ship.

Pause Construction

This will pause the construction of the selected ship.  You can resume the construction later, but the dry dock space cannot be used for other ships.

Scrap Ships

This command allows you to select a ship in orbit to scrap.  Scrapping a ship means you will decommission it and scrap it, and allows you to get 25% of the cost and alloys used to build the ship back.

Build Exploration Ships

This command will give you a list of exploration type ships you can build.  The ships under this menu are transports, colony ships, and engineering ships.

Build Capital Ships

On the build capital ships menu are three options:  build support ships, build flagships, and build planet killers.  These are for different sizes of ships.  Support ships are smaller ships generally used for support.  If there are no larger ships, however, they will be considered the fleet's flagship.  Flagships are larger ships that are generally the main force of a fleet.  A Planet Killer is a special, huge ship designed for taking out planets, it will also be the flagship of the fleet as these are the largest ships in the game.

Build Support Ships
The ships found under this sub-menu are scouts, destroyer, cruisers, and light carriers.

Build Flagships
The ships found under this sub-menu are battleships, dreadnaughts, and star class war ships.

Build Planet Killer
Each race has just one Planet Killer.  Selecting this will add the planet killer to a dry dock, not bring up another menu of ships.  These ships are the most powerful war ship and are designed to destroy planets.

Custom Build/Design

This will take you the custom build/design menu.  From there you can design a ship to fit your current need.  Check out the Star Ship Design section of the manual for design instructions.
