Planetary Command Menu

The Planetary Command Menu is where you can order construction of new buildings and raise/lower taxation.  Each planet has its own build queue and taxation rate, and is generally independent of other planets.  One planet can be happy while another one is angry.  From this menu you can control what your planet will do and how it will address your colonists' needs.  The planetary command menu consists of a planetary information panel, a planetary structures list, a build queue, and the secondary command panel.

Planet Image

In the top left corner is an image of the current planet.  Above the image is the name of the planet.  There is also a previous and next button to the left and right of the planet name.  These buttons will take you to the next and previous planet you control.

By default the planet name is randomized, but you can rename the planet.  To rename a planet, you must left click on the planet name.  This will activate the edit box.  Simply enter in the new planet name.  There is not an undo feature for name change, once started the name has been changed.  Additionally, if you change a planet's name, all the other players will see the new name the next turn.

Planet Information Panel

Below the image of the planet you will see an information panel.  The information panel displays information regarding the planet status and environment.

The environments are listed first.  There is a reading for temperature, gravity, and atmosphere.  It also lists the wildlife conditions and the soil conditions.  Your home world is your ideal environment and you can compare that to the new colony to determine how well suited the planet is for your race.

The next set of data presented is the minerals and crystals on the planet.  These are the raw materials in the planet's crust, and before they can be used, must be mined, and in the case of minerals, refined and processed as well.  Along with the minerals and crystals a density is also shown.  This shows how fast minerals and crystals can be mined from a planet.  As you mine the available resources, the density will drop as large pockets of the resource are mined first, and the remaining resources become harder and harder to mine.

Following the minerals and crystals are the actual amounts of processed resources.  These are the alloys and crystal lines.

The next set of data informs you about your population status and includes: status, tax rate, population, and population growth rate.  The population status reflects mood and feelings of the colonists on the planet, and ranges from Angry at the worst to Utopia at the best.  If the status is displayed in red, it means they are growing more dissatisfied, and if it is in blue, they are developing a more positive attitude.

The population tells you how many colonists are on the planet.  If the population is in red, this means there are not enough people to operate all the buildings.  If you do not change the build production rate, the worker shortage will be divided evenly among all the buildings.  If you want to reduce production on certain type of building, you can do that using the secondary command panel.

The population growth indicates your expected population growth rate.  Changes in mood, food, and other factors can change the actual growth rate.

The food line displays the amount of food you have available.  This must be larger than the required food supply or your colonists will starve to death.

The hangars and marines displays information about your planetary defenses.  Fighters will be launched against enemy fleets if you are attacked, and your marines will help repel ground assaults.

Finally, the production line lists your projected production of food, alloys, and energy crystals for the next turn.

Planetary Structures Panel

This panel is located next to the Main Command Panel.  The panel displays all of the building structures on the planet.  To the right of the structure type is the number of structure on the planet, followed by the production level.

At the bottom of the planetary structures list is a summary of all the structures on the planet.  The first number gives the number of structures that are on the planet.  The next number is the number of structures you have power plants for.  Advanced structures have their own power supply, and so you do not need to build power plants for them.  The last number is the maximum structures the planet can hold, and depends on the size of the planet.

Planetary Build Queue

This is where all your building requests are displayed.  The build queue will build all your buildings in the order it you placed them into the queue.  You can modify your build items or even cancel them.  The number of buildings you can build at one time is limited only by the available work force, money, alloys, and energy crystals.  If the planet does not have enough resources to build something in the queue, it will not build anything later in the queue until the first item is built.

It is very important that you make sure you set up your build queue properly to ensure streamlined building.  Anytime the planet cannot build something due to a lack of resources, it will send you a message to notify you.  However, in most cases, by the time you get the message, the planet has probably received new material from the previous turn.  You should still check out the planet just in case the last turn of production did not yield enough for this new turn.

Secondary Command Panel

The secondary command panel allows you to build planetary structures, raise/lower taxes, modify the build queue, adjust production levels, and scrap building structures.

Build Basic Structures

This command will give you a list of basic buildings.  The buildings under this command button are non-powered buildings and power plants.  The buildings found here are farms, high-tech farms, mines, entertainment facilities, and cloning factories.

Build Defense Structures

All of these building structures are powered and self-contained.  They do not require a power generator or an outpost to build.  However, you must colonize the planet first.  The buildings under this command are planetary defenses, planetary shield generators, and Star Bases.

Build Advanced Structures

All of these building are designed to be self-supporting and self-powered.  With the exception of the Star Gate, they are adapted to hostile environments that would normally be unsuitable for colonization.  By using engineering ships, you can place these structures on planets you have not colonized and gain resources from those planets.  The buildings under this command are remote mining factory, robotic mining factory, outpost, atmospheric generator, and star gates.  Star Gates are the only structure under advanced build that cannot be built on a non-colonized world.

Build Queue Manipulation

Once you have added a structure to the build queue, you can modify it by selecting the item from the build queue and then selecting the command in the secondary command panel.  The types of command you can do are increase priority, decrease priority, increase build amount, decrease build amount, pause building, and scrap building.  If you scrap a queued item, you will receive back 25% twenty-five percent of the alloys used.

Building Structures Production Level

By default all buildings are set to one hundred percent production.  However, sometimes when labor is short, you might want to reduce certain building production levels to ensure others are producing at one hundred percent.  To change a building structure production level, select the building type and then select either increase or decrease production from the secondary command panel.

Raise/Lower Taxes

There are two buttons in the secondary command panel to raise and lower the tax rate for that planet.  Remember each planet has its own tax rate.
